AN INFERNO tore through a building in Switzerland, leaving eight people injured. Flames began raging on the second floor of the block in the eastern town of Thusis after midnight, engulfing the flats and a restaurant below. Search and rescue operations are ongoing for those still unaccounted for. “The stairwell collapsed, so the roof of the building had to be opened with a crane,” police said in a statement addressing the serious conditions. Footage shows large flames shooting out of the windows of the upper floor. A thick cloud of smoke is seen rising above the ravaged building. Nearly 100 firefighters were deployed to the scene in the Graubünden region, also known as Grisons, a popular holiday destination in the Alps.
