Five injured as Feyenoord ultras hurl FIREWORKS into rival supporters as goalkeeper scrambles to avoid missile

FIVE SC Cambuur fans were injured after Feyenoord supporters hurled fireworks into rival sections during a shocking Eredivisie clash. The Dutch football fixture descended into chaos in the 12th minute when visiting supporters began a countdown before setting off a barrage of pyrotechnics. It was almost a repeat of the 2005 Champions League quarter-final between AC and Inter Milan at the San Siro, where AC keeper Dida was hit by a flare. On that particular occasion, the match was abandoned, with AC Milan awarded a 3-0 victory on the night. Had Ernst been struck by a pyrotechnic yesterday as Dida was 21 years ago, the Eredivisie clash would reportedly have been abandoned. The game did stop for more than 20 minutes, but play eventually resumed, with Feyenoord going on to win 5-2. Cambuur confirmed that five of their supporters suffered burns, hearing damage and eye injuries during the incident. Feyenoord general manager Robert Eenhoorn said: “It is, of course, especially terrible for a number of injured Cambuur supporters. I also don’t understand the reason this happened, because normally you hear something beforehand. The club commented: “It should be clear that setting off and firing fireworks is completely unacceptable and has no place in a football stadium whatsoever.” Jan Bluyssen, the Dutch FA’s manager of professional football competition affairs, also commented. Dutch football is again now making headlines for all the wrong reasons when it comes to crowd trouble and the use of pyrotechnics getting out of control. Frank Kriellaars, chairman of the Dutch Supporters’ Association, said: “Many measures have been taken in recent years, but this shows once again that you can’t solve everything.
