TRENDSETTER: Follow the viral trend by picking up a whole watermelon at Morrisons, reduced from £3.75 to £2.75. Sign up for the Money newsletter Thank you! Cut it in half and scoop out some of the middle to create a well, then cover with clingfilm and freeze overnight. Remove from the freezer, then pour in a dash of double cream and use a spoon to scrape the flesh of the fruit into the cream. Then, fold in 3tbsp condensed milk, £1, also from Asda, and add a splash of vanilla extract. Pop it in an open storage tub and cover with clingfilm — push it down to the surface of the mixture to stop ice crystals forming. Use up over-ripe bananas to create a cheap ice-cream alternative that tastes amazing. Freeze peeled bananas overnight, then blitz in a blender until smooth. It really is that simple. MAKE YO’ OWN: For DIY frozen yoghurt, get Lidl Milbona Greek Yoghurt, £1.60, and spoon it into an ice cube tray before freezing. Blend the frozen cubes with a drizzle of honey until smooth for that soft frozen yoghurt texture. This also makes a great chilled breakfast dish — just add fruit and granola. POST-GYM PROTEIN: For a high-protein dessert that will really shock you, pick up a tub of Aldi Everyday Essentials cottage cheese, 89p. Blend the full tub with a couple of handfuls of ripe or frozen berries, also £1.99 at Aldi, and a spoonful of honey. Freeze in an open tub, with clingfilm covering it. Once frozen, you will have a surprisingly sweet dessert, packed with 36g of protein. All prices on page correct at time of going to press. Deals and offers subject to availability.
