fish narc – “Big Dumb World”

A decade ago, I never would have predicted a future in which vast swaths of the indie underground make it their goal to meticulously evoke the alt-rock-era power-pop of Gin Blossoms and the Lemonheads. But that's the (glorious) reality we're living in now, and fish narc is generously contributing to the phenomenon. Like a much cooler alternate-reality MGK, Ben Funkhouser has been on an arc from SoundCloud rapper to fuzzed-out jangle-pop craftsman, and — even more than last year's frog song — the early samples from new album Uncle are proof that he's gotten quite good at it.Last month fish narc introduced the album with the winsome "Much Less Me." Today he's back with another fine specimen called "Big Dumb World." The lead guitar slices and dices nimbly against those mammoth chords Funkhouser's deep, textured voice sounds so smooth delivering these hooks.
