Sign in to your ScreenRant account It was in the early 2000s that the space Western drama Firefly took to our screens, offering us a glimpse into the year 2517 where humans have arrived in a brand-new star system. The show may have come to an end after just 11 of its 14 episodes were aired, but despite this, it still went on to win a Primetime Emmy Award, with many considering its cancellation to be unwarranted. However, there is no denying that Firefly went on to inspire the sci-fi genre in the early 2000s, and whilst one PlayStation Plus freebie is part of a different sci-fi franchise, it definitely has nods to the space drama that many of us remember fondly. Grab This Hit Sci-Fi Title For Free Now Combining the sci-fi elements of the likes of Firefly with the open-world setting of Red Dead Redemption 2, Star Wars Outlaws has been considered something of an underrated gem in recent years. First launched back in 2024 by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft itself, Star Wars Outlaws brought gamers the first open-world Star Wars game set between the events of 1980's The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and 1983's Return of the Jedi. It follows the story of Kay Vess, a young scoundrel who must assemble a team to undertake a daring heist in order to escape a crime syndicate hunting her down. The third-person, open-world game features both a main story, as well as the side activities you can expect from open-world titles, and whilst Ubisoft reported that Star Wars Outlaws did not meet expectations when it came to overall sales, there is no denying that it remains an underrated gem of the genre. As such, our very own Glenn Bunn awarded Star Wars Outlaws an 8/10 stars in their review, calling it a "stunning depiction of scum and villainy." While Star Wars Outlaws does have its pacing issues and there are moments where it feels restrictive, for the most part, it is still an enjoyable open-world experience to dive into. It's definitely one of the more in-depth insights into and excellent explorations of the scoundrel side. How Kay Vess' story plays into the wider franchise is yet to be seen, but with some major revelations in the final part of the game, there are bound to be some exciting consequences going forward from this excellent first adventure. Available to Download Now Better yet, if you have yet to experience Star Wars Outlaws for yourself, you will be pleased to hear that it is available to download at no extra cost for PlayStation Plus Extra members. Coming in at a standard cost of £69.99, this is a huge saving. Additionally, being a Ubisoft+ Classics member will also allow you to download this underrated gem for free. So, if you want to check out Star Wars Outlaws without having to splash the cash, make sure to take advantage of your subscriptions and dive into the first and only open-world Star Wars experience.
