Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Review Round-Up

Fortune's Weave Is The Highest-Rated Fire Emblem Game Since Awakening Published Sep 16, 2026, 8:39 AM EDT Josh Coulson is an editor at TheGamer covering breaking news on everything from colorful platformers to the latest Lego sets. Primarily a news writer since 2018, Josh has covered just about every major game from the past decade. Now an editor, their focus has shifted to being the leading affiliate expert at the site, building relationships between TheGamer and global brands including Mattel, Funko, and The Pokemon Company. Fire Emblem games tend to score pretty highly with reviewers. That meant there was a lot of pressure on Fortune’s Weave, the first mainline entry on Switch 2, to deliver. It seems Fire Emblem fans really had nothing to worry about, as Fortune’s Weave currently has the second highest review scores in series history. Fortune's Weave Is The Best Fire Emblem Game Since Awakening Those scores are fluctuating slightly as more reviews are published, however, at the time of typing this, Fortune’s Weave has an impressive 90 on OpenCritic. Not only is that more than Three Houses, which many consider to be the best Fire Emblem game ever, but it’s just two points behind Awakening, the highest-rated Fire Emblem game ever, which has a 92 on Metacritic. Here at TheGamer, Ryan Thompson-Bamsey awarded Fortune’s Weave a perfect score. “Fortune's Weave takes the foundations of modern Fire Emblem, stretches them further than I could have ever expected, and somehow makes that enormous ambition feel justified,” they write in their review, which you can check out in full right here. Elsewhere, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb gave Fortune’s Weave four stars out of a possible five, writing, “Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is gigantic. That vastness can occasionally act as a barrier between the player and the core tactics, but it is somehow able to support all that weight with memorable battles and a sharp gameplay loop.” Fire Emblem For Old And New Fans Alike Another perfect score for Fortune’s Weave at VGC where Dave Aubrey, formerly of TheGamer, speaks to how the latest Fire Emblem game is perfect for both seasoned fans of the series and new comers alike. “Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is an essential game for fans of Fire Emblem and SRPGs, and if you’re new to the series or genre, there’s no better place to get started ,” their five-star review reads. Destructoid awarded the game a nine out of ten and also mentions how accessible Fortune’s Weave is to those who have never played a Fire Emblem game before. “Fire Emblem's somewhat arduous onboarding for a newcomer is a minor roadblock in the way of an epic, sprawling, time-consuming adventure that's fun, challenging, and very enjoyable even for a noob to the series,” Scott Duwe writes. The takeaway doesn’t just seem to be “Hey, if you like more Fire Emblem - good news! This is more Fire Emblem,” but also that it’s an entry that welcomes newcomers, and despite being an RPG that will demand more than 100 hours of your time, you aren’t going to get bored of it. It’s an incredibly hard thing to pull off, yet Fire Emblem has managed it so many times and appears to have not only done it yet again via Fortune’s Weave, but has done so in a way that’s up there with some of the best games the 36-year-old series has to offer.
