After Years Of Waiting, We're Finally Getting A Proper Character Creator In Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Published Aug 6, 2026, 9:43 AM EDT The Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave showcase was full of surprises. Whether that was a new combat mode, returning characters, or someone straight up pulling out a gun, a lot is going on here - but none of these reveals was as shocking as the news of our “true” protagonist. We were initially led to believe that one of four characters would be our protag, with players choosing which one to play as at the start of the game. However, in a shocking twist, it turns out that none of the four is the main character, as that role goes to Eshmel, a customisable player character much like Robin and Corrin. Now, we have a better idea of just how customizable they will be, and it’s looking very promising. A new video shows us what we can expect from Fortune’s Weave’s character creator, and it looks like the best one the series has given us yet. Finally, We Can Change The Skin Colour Of Our Fire Emblem Self-Inserts This comes from the official Fire Emblem Twitter account, which shows off the character creator in a brief gameplay clip. As you can see, this looks like a proper character creator from any other RPG, with a bunch of different options to play around with. First up, there’s body type. It’s interesting to see how the game uses that terminology instead of gender or sex. It’s unclear if we will select that separately, or if sex is indeed locked behind body type. Alternatively, there might not actually be any differences based on Eshmel’s gender, meaning there's no point to us choosing. From there, we select skin colour, which fans are relieved to see. It’s the most we’ve been able to do with a player character in a Fire Emblem game, made even better by the fact that we’ll see them as a 3D character model in cutscenes. From the looks of it, there are only four hairstyles to choose from, likely changing depending on your body type. The last thing of note here is that Eshmel is only the default name, and we can call our character whatever we want. Although, if it’s anything like how it worked in the older games, many of us will just stick with Eshmel. Especially because that’s a pretty sick name. It’s not long now until we’ll be making an Eshmel of our own. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is set to launch on September 17, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2.
