Her work blends wit with insight, making readers feel like they’re chatting with a friend who just happens to know way too much about TV. Although Fire Country season 5 has only just started, the show has built its identity so heavily around Bode Leone (Max Thieriot) that facing a crisis of character like the show tends to do from season to season could push it to an unexpected end. Throughout Fire Country's run, the CBS series has seen dips and valleys in quality, with characters exiting the series in fairly normal ways and painfully tragic ones, as well. While Bode has never necessarily been at risk of leaving the series, those around him have been burned by his actions, and his behavior hasn't always warranted an extended stay in Edgewater. Bode began Fire Country with a clear objective as he worked within the Three Rock program to get into a position with Cal Fire, but things have changed throughout the run of the show. While Bode has rehabilitated his image and ultimately found himself in more of a leadership position with the rest of his team, his behavior hasn't inspired excitement or praise from the average Fire Country viewer. Bode's often impulsive, somewhat grating, and self-important in a way that doesn't make him a character that's all too fun to root for. Fire Country season 5, unfortunately, has seen a tough side of Bode thus far. While Bode is always looking to help the Edgewater fire department in some way, he's a confusing character to watch on screen. There are times when Fire Country seems to know exactly who he is, and others when the series feels uncertain of what should come next for Bode. With the show unable to make his growth convincing, Fire Country could face big enough Bode issues that it could be time to pull the plug. Fire Country Season 5 Doesn't Know What To Do With Bode CBS As Fire Country season 5 gets underway, it's clear that for yet another season, the series isn't sure what they should do with Bode's character. Throughout the past few years, viewers have watched as he got into and out of relationships with several different women, struggled with the loss of his later father, Vince Leone (Billy Burke), and found himself struggling as he continues to move away from the mistakes of his past. Despite the fact that the end of Fire Country season 4 finally saw Bode in a relationship that seemed like it was meant to last with Chloe (Alona Tal), the uncertainty surrounding his character has long been strange. With Fire Country season 5 introducing CJ Ryan (Olivia Thirlby), a former firefighter from back east who Bode's taken an interest in after meeting her ahead of the Founder's Day sinkhole disaster, there's even more uncertainty surrounding Bode's future. While his relationship with Chloe is meant to be something that continues this season, his interest in CJ has been mounting over the course of the first episodes of the season. Though it's not confirmed things will turn romantic between CJ and Bode, the fact that it's a question proves the way Fire Country has moved in the past. Without a clear path forward for Bode, Fire Country has made it impossible to predict what's coming next, and that unpredictability isn't necessarily interesting. Instead, it makes it impossible for Bode to feel rooted, which has plagued Fire Country as the series has moved forward. Bode's Continued Flaws Can Break Fire Country CBS Bode has long been such an inconsistent part of Fire Country that even the characters on the show don't know what to make of him at times. While he's always reliable in the ways he needs to be surrounding the safety of Edgewater, his personal life has been a train wreck over the course of the past few seasons. Though it's understandable in terms of his grief over his father, the fact that it's impossible to tell if Bode feels settled or satisfied is a problem for the CBS hit. Rather than knowing what's coming for Bode, Fire Country has made him a flight risk. Though Fire Country appears to be in it for the long haul, especially with the show's Edgewater universe expanding to Sheriff Country now, it's clear that Bode is a weak link. Whether it be his pursuit of love with an impossibly long list of women who keep disappearing or a push forward in his professional life that doesn't feel like enough for the legacy firefighter, Bode doesn't know what he wants, and his flaws could be Fire Country's downfall. Though the series has other characters to follow, Bode is the focal point of Fire Country. Knowing that he's the moral center of the Edgewater universe, the fact that even Fire Country doesn't know what Bode wants could push the show to come to a close far sooner than anyone would anticipate. The downfall of one of CBS' best series could be the fact that its main character hasn't been able to connect the dots of his own story, which may leave Fire Country shuttering its doors.
