Fire Country & Sheriff Country Announce 2-Hour Crossover Event As EP Teases Prison Break Storyline

Another Fire Country and Sheriff Country crossover has been set at CBS, and it'll involve a prison break, a major windstorm and, of course, a fire, according to an executive producer. The last crossover aired in April and revolved around the fire and police departments rescuing kids who had been kidnapped from a bus. Fire Country's Bode and Sheriff Country's Boone teamed up to save them but ended up stuck underground with the victims. In the end, they were able to rescue the kids after maneuvering through a harrowing situation. Image via CBS Soon, the Edgewater firefighter and law enforcement officers will be teaming up again for another Sheriff Country and Fire Country two-hour crossover set to air on Friday, November 6, beginning at 8 p.m. EDT on CBS, according to Deadline. The official loglines have been revealed by the network, with the crossover kicking off during Sheriff Country season 2, episode 5, "No Way In." As a hostage crisis unfolds following a prison break, Sheriff Mickey Fox leaps into action to save everyone involved. Fire Country's Max Thieriot (who plays Bode), Kevin Alejandro (Manny) and Jules Latimer (Eve) will appear in the episode as guest stars. Then in Fire Country season 5, episode 5, titled "No Way Out," a manhunt begins for the escaped prisoners, as Mickey enlists the help of the Station 42 firefighters to protect Edgewater. Morena Baccarin (Mickey), Matt Lauria (Boone), Michele Weaver (Deputy Campbell), Amanda Arcuri (Skye) and Ian Quinlan (Deputy Iglesias) from Sheriff Country will cross over as guest stars. During an interview with Deadline, Sheriff Country showrunner/executive producer Matt Lopez opened up about the upcoming crossover, teasing that the storyline is largely a "standalone adventure," though some of the characters make references to ongoing events happening on their respective shows. "There are references to stuff that the Fire Country gang is playing. Like for Bode, it is in the continuity. He will talk about things that are happening on Fire Country. Our characters are doing stuff that’s certainly not inconsistent with our continuity, but it’s a standalone adventure. We did the same thing this year as last year’s crossover thanks to the response. People loved it, and CBS was very thrilled." Similar to the first crossover, this new one will be "one continuous story" leading from Sheriff Country into Fire Country with a "seamless" transition. In other words, "There weren't credits shown between the two," Lopez explained. "We wanted to do it earlier because last year the crossover was episode 13. I thought it would be fun to break the story like a feature. So it’s one continuous story. If you watched our last one, when it aired live, it was seamless. There weren’t credits shown between the two." As the loglines revealed, there's a prison break at the center of the crossover, but the characters will also be dealing with a "spectacular windstorm and fire event." Mickey and Manny will be the two central figures this time around, and they'll be navigating a "push and pull" between Station 42 and the sheriff's office, as resources are required from both departments. "There are personal stakes involved," Lopez teased. "It's a real sort of roller coaster episode." "What we’ll see is Mickey and Manny figure very, very heavily. There’s a situation that arises on the day of a spectacular windstorm and fire event. There are also escaped convicts on the loose. There are resources required both from 42 in the Fire Country Universe and from the ESCO (Edgewater County Sheriff’s Office) in the Sheriff Country Universe. There’s this real push and pull, and as leaders of these particular incidents, Mickey and Manny will have to figure out how to navigate this, and there are personal stakes involved. It’s a real sort of roller coaster episode. I think audiences will love it." The crossover will feature some explosions, with Lopez revealing that they're being created practically without CGI. The executive producer traveled to Vancouver when the Fire Country episode was being filmed, and some of the crew members told him, "We've never tried to do s*** like this before." "It feels really, really big. I was over in Vancouver for the Fire Country portion of the shoot, and some very experienced Fire Country crew members who have been there for all five seasons were like, 'We’ve never tried to do s*** like this before.' [There are] practical [explosions], not CGI. We did some really cool practical stuff." The two-hour crossover event will no doubt be a major draw for fans during the upcoming season, but there's another exciting situation happening in the Fire Country franchise several weeks before that. Baccarin's real-life husband, actor Ben McKenzie, will guest star in the Sheriff Country season 2 premiere as Wade, a sheriff from a nearby town. He'll head into Edgewater to help Sheriff Fox on a case while trying to keep some secrets from everyone. The two previously starred together on Gotham.
