FIORENTINA have sacked manager Fabio Grosso after just THREE league games. The 48-year-old, who scored the winning penalty for Italy in the 2006 World Cup final shootout, was only appointed in June. The Tuscan club were smashed 4-0 by Roma and then trounced 3-0 at home by newly-promoted Frosinone. Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Torino was Grosso’s final act as Fiorentina chiefs swung the axe with the club sitting rock-bottom of Serie A. The news was confirmed via an eye-catchingly blunt statement, which read: “ACF Fiorentina announces that Fabio Grosso has been relieved, effective today, of his duties as coach of the men’s First Team.” Rumours of tension between Grosso and sporting director Fabio Paratici – formerly of Tottenham – are also believed to have contributed to the rapid dismissal. Fiorentina are now in the process of reappointing Paolo Vanoli, according to Fabrizio Romano. Vanoli, 54, signed a short-term deal in November 2025 and left the Viola at the end of last season.
