Final Fantasy: Beyond The Lifestream Announced

In 2027, Final Fantasy VII Revelation will bring the remake project to a close, but another major venture is now on the horizon. This time, the new content will be crossing over with another Final Fantasy game, and it's not another mobile game riddled with gacha monetization. Final Fantasy XIV, the long-running MMO, has now revealed the Final Fantasy VII collaboration that plenty of fans have always been waiting for. The official Final Fantasy XIV X account shared the news of Beyond the Lifestream, a Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy VII crossover. This will come in the form of a raid series for the upcoming Evercold expansion, which will release in January 2027. The post is accompanied by splash art of Cloud wielding his iconic Buster Blade in front of the futuristic city of Midgar, with a one-winged Sephiroth lurking behind the looming Shinra Tower. More details on Beyond the Lifestream were shared at the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Berlin, where FFVII Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi elaborated on the project. Per RadioTimes, the teams behind both FFXIV and FFVII "are really hard at work on making this happen." FFVII writer Kazushige Nojima is supervising the story, and Tetsuya Nomura is supervising the art design. For those less interested in raids, there will also be a bit of other Final Fantasy VII content to enjoy in Final Fantasy XIV next year. FFXIV's Gold Saucer will receive some FFVII-themed updates, including a "Keybound Brawler" typing game that presumably calls back to FFVII's 3D Brawler. PCGamesN confirms that "gear based on Barrett and Tifa's outfits" will comprise some of the rewards for the minigame. Crossover characters can also be expected, although details on that front haven't yet been provided. Even without a new mainline entry on the horizon, 2027 is looking like a good year to be a fan of the Final Fantasy franchise, especially if you still haven't gotten enough of FFVII after all these years. With FFXIV's expansion set to arrive in January, Beyond the Lifestream could be the perfect way to make the last stretch of waiting for Final Fantasy VII Revelation just a bit easier.
