The release of a Final Fantasy 9 sequel has been confirmed for 2028, though it will come in the form of an animated TV show. The series will be focused on the last black mages, children of Vivi Ornitier, and their lives in the city of Alexandria well after the events of the game. As exciting as the show sounds, hopes for a remake of the JRPG haven’t been entirely quelled. Nevertheless, for now, fans will have to content themselves with other releases related to the game, even if they aren’t video games. As seen on a product page on the official Square Enix Store website, a new release called Final Fantasy 9 Integrity is now available for purchase, allowing you to bask in the glory of the aforementioned Vivi Ornitier and Zidane Tribal. The product is already available in the North American market, though it can be purchased on pre-order in the European and Great Britain storefronts. The release of Final Fantasy 9 Integrity had been announced a while back, but now fans can pick it up. This is a new commemorative jigsaw puzzle with 1,000 pieces. The puzzle replicates the new 25th anniversary key artwork piece called Integrity, highlighting Vivi looking up at a full moon, while Zidane stands on nearby ruins, looking down at his black mage companion. The artwork was officially unveiled in 2025 as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations and is one of the many new key visuals released for the game. Another similar release is Final Fantasy 9 Reclusion, a 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle that replicates the Reclusion artwork released for the game’s 25th anniversary. This other piece, however, is focused on Kuja and his Silver Dragon with Iifa, the Ancient Tree of Life. Like Integrity, FF9 Reclusion has also been available since July in the North American store, but can be pre-ordered in the European and Great Britain shops. These two jigsaw puzzles are only two of the many products being released to celebrate the legendary JRPG. In addition to premium miniatures of the characters from the game, a new Final Fantasy 9 collection featuring adorable music boxes has been announced – these have been released in other markets, like Japan, but are officially making their way to European markets in November. There is also an unmissable Vivi Ornitier anniversary plush that fans can’t miss if they see Vivi as the main character in FF9 – with all due respect to Zidane. For now, that’s all that fans are getting, but the hopes for a remake are real. According to the latest rumors on the project, Square Enix had been working on the remake, but has since entirely halted development with no estimate as to when it may restart. There is a chance the game is being developed to be released near the TV show’s debut, though a lot of uncertainty still befalls Final Fantasy 9 and the rumored remake.
