Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is set to conclude the reimagining of the beloved 1997 classic FF7, and its release isn't far away now. The remake project was always intended to be a three-title collection, with FF7 Remake arriving in 2020 and its follow-up, FF7 Rebirth, launching in 2024. The latest trailer for FF7 Revelation aired during the September 2026 State of Play event, followed by an extended look at the gameplay. There are a lot of details for fans of the franchise to pore over, with some standing out as the essential facts to know about the upcoming release. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Release Date FF7 Revelation's State of Play trailer revealed an official release date of April 8, 2027. This slots right in with the previously revealed release window of Spring 2027, avoiding any delay for the game's release. It also steers clear of the rush of games releasing in February 2027, a pile-up that might be caused by studios leaving a blast radius around Grand Theft Auto 6's November 2026 release. FF7 Revelation Platforms Though both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth are now available for all consoles and PC, they didn't start out that way. Both titles launched on PlayStation consoles first, and didn't make it to the Xbox, Switch, and PC until much later. In the case of FF7 Remake, Xbox and Switch users had to wait nearly six years before the game was ported to those consoles. Fans were worried that Square Enix would repeat this release schedule with FF7 Revelation, and PC and Xbox gamers, in particular, prepared to hunker down for the wait. The official Final Fantasy 7 Revelation reveal at Summer Game Fest 2026 eased fans' worries, though. According to the trailer, the title will be "launching simultaneously on all platforms." This means when the game arrives in Spring 2027, it will be available for all the following consoles and platforms: PlayStation 5 Xbox Series X|S Nintendo Switch 2 PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox on PC This is fantastic news for non-PlayStation gamers, since they can finally play the title at the same time as everyone else. FF7 Revelation Editions & Pre-Order Bonuses Across all platforms, FF7 Revelation will have two deluxe editions. The Premium Edition includes the following bonuses: Story Expansion Pass 24-Hour Early Access Reclaimant Choker in-game accessory "Survival Set" of consumable items The Premium Plus addition includes the above, plus: Digital Art Book Digital Mini Soundtrack Polydroid Alexander Summon Materia Nymphwing Bracelet in-game armor Risk Taker's Choker in-game accessory The Story Expansion pass includes access to two planned DLCs, with one focusing on Sephiroth and the other on Vincent and the Turks. Across all editions, pre-orders of the game will include Mecha-Chocobo & Moogle Summoning Materia. FF7 Revelation Characters, Gameplay, & Combat Details The latest Final Fantasy 7 Revelations trailer showed off a lot of exciting new locations, weapons, and familiar faces. It also highlighted some of the gameplay, including battles and exploration. On a basic level, the game is building on the same foundations as Rebirth, but it's taking the scale to another level. Cid's airship, the Highwind, will act as a hub for the characters. Players will be able to use the airship to explore the world, and even skydive directly off the flying ship to visit different areas ranging from Yuffie's homeland of Wutai to familiar places like Gongaga. On the land, a new grappling gun makes it possible to scale buildings and increase the speed of traversal by attaching to specific grappling points. Players will step right back into the shoes of the iconic FF7 cast. The trailer showed off new moves and attacks from these playable characters: Cloud Strife Tifa Lockhart Barret Wallace Red XIII Yuffie Kisaragi Cait Sith Cid Highwind Vincent Valentine Zack and Aerith are conspicuously absent, though that's partially to be expected for reasons we'll avoid due to spoilers. The last two characters on the list are especially exciting, as neither Cid nor Vincent were playable in Rebirth. Now, the two will join the fight with some incredible moves. Vincent will rely on his guns in combat, as well as his beast transformations, while Cid will act as the Dragoon-style fighter with his lance and devastating AOEs. Characters can also fight on the backs of their Chocobos this time around, potentially making for more seamless exploration and interesting new combat possibilities. In addition to two new playable characters, the third game in the trilogy will add a new combat mechanic called the FITS system (Function Integrated Tactical Suitware). This will allow players to unleash moves from four classic Final Fantasy jobs: the Black Mage, Knight, Summoner, Warrior. These will "significantly alter" the role and abilities of a character while retaining their base stats. In the latest trailer, Vincent takes on the role of the Summoner for some flashy attacks and summons, while Cid is shown in the defensive FITS option of the Knight. FF7 Revelation Story Details Without getting too far into spoilers for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the title left off at a dramatic turning point for the party. As the third game kicks off, the planet is in danger from Sephiroth summoning of a mighty meteor. The planet has responded by unleashing its protectors to fight back against the impending doom: massive beings known as the Weapons. FF7 Revelation will feature the epic, large-scale fights against these collosal Weapons, as well as the final showdown against Sephiroth. The game will also take players to the rest of the world of FF7. This includes some exciting new areas, like Yuffie's hometown of Wutai, the Mideel archipelago, and the Northern Continent's frozen landscape. Unsurprisingly, FF7 Revelation will also feature plenty of side content with its own narrative elements. This time, choosing different party members for certain quests will have an impact on how they play out, potentially adding some interesting decisions and increasing the game's replayability. Red XIII is also getting a spotlight as the face of the Queen's Blood campaign, as he's now taking over from Cloud to challenge opponents across the world in the card-based minigame. The epic tale of the Final Fantasy 7 remake will conclude in the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. And as a nice bonus, players who have save data from the previous games will be rewarded with special Summon Materia: Chocobo & Moogle for FF7 Remake Intergrade and the Phoenix for FF7 Rebirth.
