Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Gets Release Date And Shows Off Extended Open-World RPG Gameplay

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is out on April 8, 2027, on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC. Square Enix revealed the release date alongside a new extended look at the trilogy-concluding sequel’s new open-world RPG gameplay features. Our longest look yet at the upcoming game confirmed players can swap characters at any time, parachute into almost any location on the map from their airship, and use Yuffie’s new grappling-hook gun to traverse maps with a new level of verticality at play. The character switching isn’t just for fun, either. Cutscenes will be from the point of view of whichever character you’re currently playing as. Square Enix also confirmed that the previously announced “Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear” (FITS) will give each character four unique combat roles, each with a different outfit: Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner. Characters fighting styles and abilities will change based on what their wearing, adding another layer of tactics to the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy’s hybrid real-time combat system. Map exploration won’t be locked to the Highwind. Players will also now have a dedicated Chocobo companion named Piko who will not only carry them across large environments but ill also level up and help them out in combat. The company also teased the return of everyone’s favorite card-based mini-game Queen’s Blood along with an extended story questline revolving around Red XIII (revealed in Rebirth to be an expert player).
