The Nepal Tourism Board on Thursday, August 27, shared a breakdown of the missing in the flood in Rasuwa, which included one from the Philippines. The list only provided the numbers and countries of origin of the missing but not their identities. Other countries with missing nationals in Nepal based on a statement of the Nepal Tourism Board and foreign governments are Malaysia, Ukraine, Australia, Britain, Canada, South Korea, Singapore, Germany, Russia, South Africa, Latvia, Japan, and New Zealand. Also missing are individuals from Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kazhakstan, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Serbia, Switzerland, and Sweden, the Nepal Tourism Board said. Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a news briefing that the Philippine government has yet to receive information about Filipinos affected by the Nepal disaster but said that the government was coordinating with Nepalese authorities and the Filipino community in this regard. Castro also said that according to the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, there are 128 Filipinos in Nepal, mostly women married to locals. “According to the DFA, no reported Filipino casualty as of this morning,” Castro said in a mix of English and Filipino. Nearly 1,500 people, including more than 700 foreigners, are missing across Nepal and China’s Tibet, authorities said, after a wall of mud and rock collapsed into a Himalayan river on Wednesday, August 26, unleashing catastrophic flash floods. China’s foreign ministry said nearly 100 Chinese nationals were missing, including tourists, pilgrims and other personnel. It said China was in close communication with Nepal on search and rescue while informing relevant embassies of the situation, foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at a regular press conference in Beijing on Thursday.
