One of Final Fantasy 14's most highly-requested changes is finally here. Next month, the game's long-awaited same region player matching is being rolled out for testing in Japan, before being tweaked and rolled out worldwide, meaning that it should take a lot less time to find people if you want to run specific raids. It's a gigantic quality of life improvement for pretty much everyone. That being said, we still don't know everything about the system and how it will work. All we know is that each player will be able to play with other people in all the data centers inside their physical data center rather than just the one you chose when starting your character. Thankfully, Square Enix has released some more details telling us exactly how it will all work. Here's How FF14's Same Region Player Matching Will Work We'll use the game's European data center as it's probably the easiest example. Once same-region player matching is brought to Europe, everyone in all the worlds inside the Light data center will be able to easily connect with everyone in all the worlds inside the Chaos data center, and vice versa. In its most basic terms, every world in a physical data center will be linked. It's pretty handy, but we weren't quite sure how far this would extend. Now, with these newly published details, we know that this extends to almost every part of the game. Duty Finder, Party Finder, ranked Crystalline Conflict, Cross-world Linkshells, Fellowships and PvP Teams will also change so you can match with players within your physical data center, while you can also send tells and party invites too. The only things that aren't affected by same region player matching are the things that are already limited to your world specifically, such as Housing, Retainers, regular Linkshells, the Market Board, and Delivery Moogles. On top of that, you'll also be able to travel to other data centers a lot easier too, as long as you're within your physical data center. If we use Europe as an example again, you can now travel from Zodiark in the Light data center to Ragnarok in the Chaos data center via the City Aetherytes in Gridania, Uldah, and Limsa Lominsa. Finally, as a small thing, cross-world linkshells, PvP Teams, and Fellowships could potentially share names once this new feature is implemented, and Square Enix's solution to this is to slap a number at the end of your name if that happens. So, if you wake up and your cross-world linkshell has a 2 next to the name, you know why.
