Final Fantasy 14 has had its fair share of weird controversies over the years, ranging from things as wild as in-game dating apps, to issues as serious as third-party tools making stalking easier. With as much downtime as it has between major patches, it makes sense that fans will find weird things to discuss, but the latest discourse has taken a very, very weird turn. If you've played the game's latest batch of story quests, you'll be very familiar with Visna, the pink-haired Miqote girl who many think is sporting the next physical ranged job coming to the game. She was very prominent in the latest MSQ, welcoming our Warriors of Light to the Fourth and giving us the lowdown on how the world works. For the most part, she's a big hit with fans. Final Fantasy 14's Visna Has Kicked Off An Age Discourse Unfortunately, there is a certain subsection of the Final Fantasy 14 fanbase that is a bit too smitten with her, and is posting very, very weird takes online about a character that is essentially extremely child-coded. Not only do you have people talking obscenely about the character, but there are also reports of NSFW images already circulating. Of course, we don't actually know how old Visna is, but it seems like a large percentage of the fanbase sees her as a minor. She's the size of a child, acts like a child, and has all the hallmarks of someone being in her early teens. Despite this, Visna has managed to kick off an age discourse among the Final Fantasy 14 community. Some are pointing to Khloe Aliapoh as proof she's probably an adult, as Khloe looks much younger, yet is apparently 13. There are also some that have pointed out that Visna has a longer tail, which is a trait that adult Miqote have, as opposed to the stubby tails that child Miqote have. On the flipside, we recently had another Miqote character in Dawntrail called Yaana — Black Cat for those unaware — who looks much older than Visna, yet is apparently 16 in the lore. That would technically mean she's somewhere between the ages of 13 and 16, which I don't need to tell you is considered a minor. For me, she's a child. Age has always been a spotty topic in Final Fantasy 14 due to inconsistent rules regarding aging, the passing of time within the story, and the age of certain characters. Therefore, you have to take characters at face value, and I think the small, pink-haired, highly excitable Miqote girl with literal plushies attached to her belt is almost definitely a young teenager. Whether or not you want to believe that, that's up to you, but it's still deeply strange that this controversy has even happened in the first place. We're never getting another younger main character in the MSQ again after this one.
