Festivalgoers brave heavy rain as strong winds & thunderstorms kick off bank holiday weekend with yellow warning issued

FESTIVALGOERS across the UK are bracing for an onslaught of heavy rain as a new yellow thunderstorm warning has been declared by the Met Office. Now the Met Office has put in place a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms with some flooding to property, transport disruption and power cuts expected. Some areas may see 5-25mm of rain in just an hour along with hail and lightning. Heavy rain has already hammered Reading Festival with tents and fields covered in mud. Artists have turned to performing in wellies and fans have fallen victim to the mud with several seen slipping over. Parts of southern England and Wales will face gusty winds across the weekend which could challenge camping and travel plans on Saturday and Sunday. For northern parts of England, including Leeds Festival, it’s likely the showers might merge into longer spells of rain during the afternoon. Sunday will start bright and dry except for some light showers in northern areas. But a zone of heavy and thundery showers will sweep across the country from the west. After downpours earlier this week, parts of the Midlands and northern England may face flash flooding. South eastern areas of England look set to get lucky on Monday with less intense scattered showers compared to some heavy and thundery showers across the north. Comment now
