FedEx to pump $150 million into Delhi Airport cargo hub

The company will invest $150 million to develop an integrated air cargo hub at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.Express transportation company FedEx is set to make a major investment in Delhi's air cargo infrastructure.The company will invest $150 million to develop the facility, which will spread across 2,30,000 square feet at the airport.The groundbreaking ceremony for the hub was held in the national capital on Tuesday in the presence of Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu.NEW HUB TO STRENGTHEN AIR CARGO CONNECTIVITYThe integrated air cargo hub will come up at GMR Cargo City at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). According to FedEx, the facility will strengthen connectivity across North and East India and help businesses connect with markets across the world.At the ceremony, Naidu said India should be the backbone for air cargo movements.PACKAGE PROCESSING CAPACITY TO INCREASE The new hub is expected to significantly increase FedEx's package handling capacity.Once operational, the facility is designed to process 5,000 packages per hour, compared with the current capacity of around 600 packages per hour. FedEx said the facility can also be scaled up further as required.The planned investment of around $150 million translates to more than Rs 1,400 crore at the prevailing exchange rate.Further, the FedEx hub will be developed at GMR Cargo City, which will be developed in phases. Construction work on the facility is expected to begin shortly.Meanwhile, the investment comes as the government continues to focus on strengthening air cargo movement.Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha said efforts are underway to remove bottlenecks affecting air cargo movements.The new FedEx facility is expected to add to the air cargo capacity at Delhi airport and strengthen links between businesses in North and East India and global markets.- EndsPublished By: Jasmine anandPublished On: Aug 25, 2026 13:44 IST
