FedEx St. Jude Championship 2026 betting tips, free bets and latest golf odds

RORY MCILROY makes an earlier than expected return to action at the St Jude Championship, after originally threatening to wait until the Tour Championship before dusting off his clubs. You suspect another two weeks off would have left McIlroy hopelessly ring-rusty when he bids to a fourth FedEx Cup title in Atlanta at the end of the month. He has played just six times since he completed back-to-back wins at the Masters in April – and has not really looked like adding to his brilliant Augusta victory. The world No 2 is not a big fan of this week’s venue – TPC Southwind in Memphis – despite finishing third here in 2023, and posting a couple of other top fives in his eight previous starts. Sign up for the Sport newsletter Thank you! He swerved the St Jude last year, adding to the impression the course does not fit his eye. So his inevitable second spot in the betting – he is a best priced 16-1, behind 11-2 hotshot Scottie Scheffler – probably flatters McIlroy. Scheffler has finished fourth and third here in the last two years, but after just one win – and five seconds – in 2026, those skinny odds do not look particularly tempting. Open runner-up Cameron Young gave the impression his hectic campaign may have caught up with him when he finished outside the top 60 in the Wyndham last week. So he is also passed over. But someone who looks full of running is Hideki Matsuyama. He justified each way support when finishing T7 last week, and there are plenty of reasons to think he will do better this time. He set a course record in Memphis when winning with a 17 under par score two years ago, and was pipped in a play-off here in 2021. That combination of current and course form makes a best priced 25-1 hard to resist. Tommy Fleetwood boasts similar qualifications – fourth last time out at Birkdale, nothing worse than a T14 in his last six starts, and an obvious liking for TPC Southwind. The Englishman was the 54 hole leader here last year, but a 71st hole bogey cost him a place in the play-off that saw Justin Rose defeat JJ Spaun. Rose and Spaun have not shown great form recently. So Fleetwood to make amends at around 20-1 also makes the shortlist. Tom Kim looked the likely Wyndham winner when he moved to within a shot of the lead after 54 holes. But an even par final round saw him drop into a share of fifth. That was still a decent result for each way backers, and he could reward support again this week at a healthy 40-1. Sungjae Im continues to knock on the door. He has registered three top 15 finishes in his last four outings, so he would only need to improve by a shot or two in order to justify an each way interest at 70-1. THE DP World tour resumes after a three week break, which must have had their star players tearing their hair out at the lack of opportunities.. Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra has been the European circuit’s brightest lights this year, and he disputes favouritism at the Danish Golf Championship with Rasmus Hojgaard. Both are widely available at 14-1, and preference is for Hojgaard. He has been keeping busy in the USA, and last year he finished just a shot behind Marco Penge, who is not defending his title. The event moves to a new venue this time. But Hojgaard is still the man to beat on home soil – with two other Danes, Jacob Skov Olesen and Thorbjorn Olesen (no relation!) also worth considering at 25-1 and 28-1 respectively. Marcus Armitage has shown encouraging glimpses of form, so a 45-1 quote looks attractive. Fellow Englishman Paul Waring also looks over-priced at 66-1, and the 100-1 quote for Bahrain Championship winner Freddy Schott is another eye-catcher.
