Speaking to Trusted Reviews, industry analysts Piers Harding-Rolls said this could help keep the device under the $1,000 (£739) mark. Sign up for the Tech newsletter Thank you! Piers, who is head of game research at at Ampere Analysis, said that moving way from physical games could be a good move for Sony as it gets rid of manufacturing costs and can keep more revenue in the company. He said he believes Sony could use the “higher revenue” generated by digital game sales and PlayStation Plus subscriptions to “subsidise the hardware”. It comes as the expert warns that a PS6 costing a grand or more would “significantly restrict its potential audience”. “The next console is also expected to face higher component costs. In particular, memory and storage are likely to be affected by demand from AI data centres,” the article explained. Talk of a potential price rise comes as the price of an Xbox has risen by £170 due to a rise in the cost of memory and storage chips. Sony has remained tight- lipped about the PS6 and consumers won’t have any real answers about the product until details are confirmed by officials.
