Father dies after 'being electrocuted while working at five-star hotel'

See more Daily Mail on Google - save us as a Preferred Source Published: 07:54 EDT, 1 September 2026 | Updated: 08:00 EDT, 1 September 2026 Tributes have been paid to a 'true gentleman' who died after being electrocuted whilst working at a five-star hotel.An inquest heard that Jason Gledhill was working alone in a maintenance room at the luxury Southampton Harbour Hotel when he was fatally injured.The 55-year-old, from Denton, Greater Manchester, was found dead at the Southampton Harbour Hotel in the city's Ocean Village development on August 13.Senior coroner for Hampshire, Christopher Wilkinson, said a post-mortem examination by Dr Brett Lockyer found the father-of-one's cause of death was electrocution.Mr Wilkinson adjourned the full inquest to be held at Winchester Coroners' Court, Hampshire, on June 30, 2027.Mr Gledhill was listed as working as an installation manager on an online CV, having previously worked as an electrician and a network planner for British Telecom.His death has led to an outpouring of tributes, including from his wife Paula.She said in a public social media post on behalf of herself and daughter Georgina: 'Our hearts are completely broken by the sudden and unimaginable loss of Jason.'Thank you for all the love, kindness and support being shown to us at this incredibly difficult time.' 'He gave so much of himself to our club over the years and played an important part in so many areas.'More importantly, he was a friend to so many and a familiar, welcoming face who will be remembered with enormous affection.'His passing is a huge loss to the club and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be greatly missed.'Rest in peace, Jason. You will always be remembered as a true gentleman and will be greatly missed by everyone at the club.' At the time of the incident, three fire engines, two ambulances, an air ambulance, a police van and an electrical engineering van were all at the scene.Police were spotted carrying bags of evidence including a pair of Adidas trainers, a set of keys, a wallet and a drill. A private ambulance later left the scene.Phone lines at the waterfront hotel were temporarily unavailable as a result of the incident, while the main entrance was cordoned off.Hampshire Police previously said: 'We received a report just before 10.20am on Thursday 13 August of a man who had suffered an injury at Harbour Hotel.'A man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and officers are in liaison with Environmental Health.'The Health and Safety Executive was contacted for comment.
