Farmer leader urges State government to increase police patrolling, beat in rural areas to prevent crimes

KRRS honorary president Chamarasa Malipatil | Photo Credit: File Photo Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangh (KRRS) honorary president Chamarasa Malipatil on Saturday urged the Karnataka government to immediately step up police patrolling and beat in rural areas to curb the rising crime rate across Raichur district.​Addressing a press conference in Raichur, Mr. Malipatil highlighted a recent surge in violent offences, specifically pointing to heinous crimes in Deodurg, Sirwar, and Lingsugur taluks. Among these incidents was the brutal murder of three individuals belonging to the Dalit community, including two women.​Referring to a recent incident in Hokrani village where a Dalit woman was gang-raped and murdered, the farmer leader called the event a direct challenge to the efficiency of the State Home Department. He attributed the rise in rural crime partly to a lack of record-keeping by the police at the village level.​”The department must immediately intensify police patrolling and beat in rural areas, maintain up-to-date village crime registers, and track suspicious individuals to prevent further atrocities,” Mr. Malipatil said.Drought-affected areasThe KRRS leader strongly condemned the State Cabinet’s decision to exclude Sirwar and Manvi taluks from the official list of acute drought-affected areas.​Describing Sirwar and Manvi as among the worst-hit regions in the district, Mr. Malipatil expressed surprise over their omission. He demanded that the State government immediately revise its notification, declare both areas drought-hit, and release emergency financial compensation to the affected farming families.‘Expedite water delivery’​To mitigate recurring agricultural losses from persistent dry spells, Mr. Malipatil also urged the government to expedite water delivery to tail-end, dry-land fields falling under the command area of the Tungabhadra irrigation network.​”Ensuring water access to these marginal lands would allow long-suffering farmers to cultivate crops reliably and recover from successive years of natural disasters and drought,” he added.
