Police say the murder was plotted with her boyfriend, a bouncer, against the backdrop of months of marital discord over their relationship. The accused, Kajal and Yogendra, have been arrested in connection with the killing of the victim named Gopal during the intervening night of October 14 and 15. According to police, Kajal attacked her husband with a vegetable-cutting knife, inflicting multiple wounds to his neck. She initially blamed unidentified men for the killing but later confessed to the crime during questioning, police said. The investigation has traced the motive to a relationship that had strained the marriage for years. Yogendra was not a stranger to the family: he and Gopal were friends, and he had been visiting their home in their native village in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district.Police said tensions escalated when Yogendra began visiting even when Gopal was away. A MARRIAGE THAT BEGAN AFTER KAJAL LEFT HER FIRST HUSBANDGopal, a native of Kunwarpur village in Hathras, had worked as a machine operator at a company in Faridabad for around two decades. It was there, about 16 years ago, that he met Kajal, who was then married to another man.The two developed a relationship, and Kajal left her first husband to marry Gopal in a court marriage in Hathras. Her daughter from the first marriage, Shalini, was around five years old at the time. Gopal later built a house in his village with his earnings. Kajal moved there with the children, while he continued working in Faridabad to support the family. He travelled back periodically, and Kajal occasionally brought the children to Faridabad. The couple had three children together — Tanuj, 10, Hanni, 6, and Bhuri, 3. Shalini, now 19, also lived in the village. The arrangement allowed Gopal to continue earning in Faridabad while his family stayed in Hathras. But police said the household's relative stability began to unravel as Yogendra's presence became a source of conflict.FRIENDSHIP THAT POLICE SAY BECAME A SOURCE OF CONFLICTYogendra lived about 500 metres from Gopal's village home. The two men were friends, and Yogendra would visit when Gopal returned to the village.Over time, however, Yogendra began turning up even in Gopal's absence, police said. His visits triggered arguments between Kajal and Gopal, with their relationship becoming a recurring point of contention. The dispute grew so serious that Gopal had not visited his village home for several months before his death, according to police.Investigators suspect that the prolonged discord eventually led Kajal and Yogendra to plan Gopal's murder.POLICE SUSPECT PREMEDITATED MURDERAccording to the police's account, Kajal arrived in Faridabad with the children on October 13. She called Yogendra to the city the following day.Gopal returned home after consuming alcohol on the night of October 14. While he and Kajal slept in one room, the children were in another, police said.Kajal attacked him with a vegetable-cutting knife, repeatedly striking his neck. Gopal died of his injuries. She subsequently claimed that unidentified intruders had entered the house and assaulted her husband. Police said questioning exposed her account, and she confessed to the killing.A police source said the investigation indicated that Kajal had plotted the murder with Yogendra and carried out the attack herself.DAUGHTER'S ROLE ALSO EXAMINEDGopal's brother, Ashok, had expressed suspicion about Shalini, Kajal's daughter from her first marriage. However, police said they had found no evidence of her involvement in the murder so far.- Ends
