Tel stepped up to take a free-kick in a promising position, with Spurs already a goal down. But the Frenchman ballooned his strike miles over the bar and up into the stands. Furious Spurs supporters raced straight onto social media to hit out at the former Bayern Munich man – and demanded for De Zerbi to drag him off. He had found the net with a brilliant free-kick during Tottenham’s pre-season clash with Sydney. But, unfortunately for Spurs, there was no sign of a repeat. The winger went into the campaign having bagged four goals in 31 Premier League appearances last term. Tel initially snubbed a loan move to Tottenham before making a shock U-turn in the final hours of the winter transfer window last year.
