Fans defend Rukmini Vasanth against trolls over implied intimate scene in Toxic

Director Geetu Mohandas and actor Yash’s gangster film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups was released in theatres this Wednesday and opened to mixed reviews despite high expectations among fans. As reactions to the film came in, trolls picked on various aspects of it, with many targeting actor Rukmini Vasanth over a hinted intimate scene involving her character.That online discussion was followed by a pushback from Rukmini’s fans, who defended her and criticised the remarks being made about the scene. Much of the debate centred on a moment in the film that, according to viewers defending her, is only implied rather than shown.In Toxic, Rukmini plays Mellisa, a character who is introduced much later than the other female leads. She first meets Yash’s character, Raya, with the intention of harming him, but the two later become lovers. Their intimacy in the film is only suggested, unlike some of the other sensual scenes, and the story later shows that the two characters have a child.Even so, trolls on X began posting comments such as, “Rukmini didn’t expect this from you,” and, “Rukmini Vasanth is a kind of girl, who gives the vibe of ‘Wife Material’ attire for many boys, most of men wouldn’t have seen or thought about her in sexual or physical way of mindset (sic).” Another X post read, “She’s the one, who makes us feel so comfortable with her presence & purity, couldn’t able to digest for the role she has accepted in #Toxic, she has not done that glamorous in the movie like Kiara, but still this impact is not accepted or crossed easily (sic).”As the discussion gathered pace, fans began responding to those posts. One fan wrote on X, “There is no kissing or love-making scene for #RukminiVasanth in #Toxic. These people are making unnecessary comments like, ‘We didn’t expect this from you.’ It’s all just impression-begging. Btw, @rukminitweets, you should’ve never done this s**tty film (sic).” Calling out the ‘wife material’ post, one X user wrote, “Wow.. Such an insane toxicity from this tweet.
