A fan-favorite James Bond replacement has finally responded. A major star who fans want to see as the next 007 has officially sealed his fate in the franchise as Amazon's development of the next movie continues. The upcoming Bond 26 will breathe new life into the franchise following its acquisition by Amazon in 2025. Its new movie will be written by Steven Knight and directed by Denis Villeneuve. However, the actor portraying Bond himself hasn't been announced yet, leading to speculation across the board about who might be the next star of the franchise. Speaking with GQ Magazine, one such star, Theo James, addressed the possibility that he could play the MI6 spy in the next James Bond movie. In a conversation centered on The Gentlemen season 2, James was asked about rumors that he could be playing Bond in the next movie. He explained that not only is he too old for the part, but he also believes it would upend his private life. Becoming the face of such a massive franchise is no small task, and one he feels wouldn't be entirely worthwhile. Check out what James had to say below: I’m definitely too old now, for one. But, yeah, that would be an example of a place you could never come back from. Imagine, suddenly, you and I cannot walk down the street. What that does to your children, who are trying to find themselves in the midst of hyper-scrutiny and fame. None of that, to me, is worth it. At the time, it’s very intoxicating, being offered some huge, sexy part that would change your life forever. But it really wouldn’t ultimately be worth it. There have been a multitude of rumored James Bond recasts over the years, with popular candidates being Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Henry Cavill, and Callum Turner. James was among that list as well, with his roles in projects like The Gentlemen acting as a strong basis for how well he'd fit the bill. However, based on his new statement, it seems James wouldn't be thrilled about acting as James Bond, even if he were offered the role. The public pressure is his biggest concern, with the offer being life-changing yet, overall, not worthwhile. Some of his other noteworthy roles across his career include a dual role in the 2025 horror movie The Monkey, voicing Hector in Netflix's Castlevania animated series, and having a main role in The White Lotus season 2. He's a versatile actor, but wouldn't take on James Bond simply out of preference. The search for Bond seemingly continues, with Amazon having not released any information about the next Bond actor. It's been confirmed the studio is seeking a younger actor somewhere in his 20s or 30s, with James falling out of that category due to being 41 years old. Because of the age range, it means a number of actors who've been speculated to be Bond won't be on Amazon's list. However, as James states, some like himself may not want the pressure such a massive role comes with. For now, the search for a new Bond continues, with no official word yet on who might be stepping into the role. Since James doesn't want it, the rumors of his casting will likely die down, while other actors who more readily fit what Amazon is looking for become the core focus.
