A FAMILY farm has been slammed as “distasteful and disrespectful” by parents after introducing a Titanic-themed “ride and slide.” The £2 ride, at Graveley Farm in Hitchin, takes place on a replica model of half of the doomed 1912 liner fitted with four slides inside. Andy Taylor wrote on the farm’s Facebook page: “I’m sorry, but this is one of the most distasteful, disrespectful and strange attractions for children. Claire Borchers added: “So odd to have a children’s ride themed around one of the worst tragedies in history. “There wouldn’t be a ride focused on the Twin Towers, so why is this acceptable? Very, very odd. Certainly won’t be visiting while it is there and will urge others not to as well.” Family-run Graveley Farm, which opened in 1981, offers fruit-picking during the summer and also has a playground, crazy golf and giant slip and slide. Their newly built slide was first introduced to fans online last year, when sparking comments that it was “insensitive” and appeared to be poking fun at the 1,500 victims of the historic disaster. Responding to one user, a representative for the farm apologised and promised to “act ASAP” to change the name and decor. Obviously all the advertising and decor will be changed.” However the ride is still named The Titanic.
