Walton Goggins says he's taken off The Ghoul makeup 'for the last time' 🤔 Image: Prime Video Prime Video's Fallout series has proven over its first two seasons that video game adaptations can succeed when handled with care and creativity. Anticipation for the third season of the show is high, although fans will be waiting until at least 2027 to see what's in store for Lucy, The Ghoul, and Maximus. The good news is that the third season of Prime Video's Fallout TV show just hit a major milestone, according to star Walton Goggins, who confirms that filming on the show is nearing its end. Goggins' comments, however, have also sparked speculation about just how many more seasons of Fallout we're getting, and what the show's future means for The Ghoul and Cooper Howard. Fallout season 3 wraps filming (for the Ghoul) On Instagram, Jake Garber, head of Fallout's prosthetic makeup department, posted a photo of Goggins in full Ghoul makeup and announced, "That's a wrap for me on Season 3 of Fallout. Hell of a season! Time to sleep..." Garber is an Emmy-nominated prosthetics and makeup artist, and has been part of the Fallout production team for the show's run thus far. Goggins confirmed that his part in filming season 3 of Fallout had also wrapped. In a separate post on Instagram, Goggins said — somewhat cryptically — "Just took it off for the last time," he said, presumably referring to The Ghoul's extensive prosthetics and elaborate costume. "Season 3… Gatdamn this felt good. I wish this road or this song would never end. Gonna miss you California… til the next time." Goggins posted the message alongside video of him driving while listening to Led Zeppelin's "Ramble On." Goggins revealed in July that he'd started filming season 3, saying he was "back in the saddle." It's not clear whether Goggins' wording "Just took it off for the last time" refers only to his involvement in season 3, or whether he's done with Fallout entirely. If it's the latter, it's also unclear if season 3 will be Fallout's last or just Goggins' final bow in the post-apocalyptic television series. Given The Ghoul/Cooper Howard's prominent role in the show thus far, it seems unlikely that Fallout would carry on without the fan-favorite actor. Amazon MGM hasn't confirmed a fourth season of Fallout yet, but in an interview last year, Aaron Moten, the actor who plays former Brotherhood of Steel soldier Maximus, spoke about a much longer run for the adaptation. “When I signed on to do the series, we would have a starting point, and they gave me the endpoint,” Moten said at Comic Con Liverpool 2025. “And that endpoint hasn’t changed. But it is season 5, [season] 6 type of endpoint. We’ve always known that we were gonna take our time with the development of the characters.” When does Fallout season 3 come out? Image: Bethesda Game Studios/Amazon MGM Studios A release date for the third season of Fallout has not been announced. However, it's very likely that we will see the show return in late 2027, based on production timelines of previous seasons. Amazon renewed the hit post-apocalyptic sci-fi series for season 3 back in May 2025. The company has also confirmed a handful of new cast members, including Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad, Westworld), Emily Mortimer (The Newsroom, Lovely & Amazing), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place, The Acolyte), and Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo Rabbit, Last Night in Soho). Prime Video has not announced which roles Fallout season 3's new cast members are playing. Prime Video’s Fallout adaptation has been another successful case of a video game series making the jump to television, with the first season racking up over 100 million views as of October 2024. The show's initial run was nominated for 17 Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Goggins. Season 2 garnered nine Emmy nominations and won two. The second season generally received positive reviews, although it was criticized for some circuitous storytelling. As for where Fallout season 3 is headed, we might have a good indication of where Lucy and The Ghoul's post-New Vegas journey will take them next.
