Fall Vineyard Nails Are Already This Autumn’s Biggest Manicure Trend

If you were obsessed with sardine manicures this summer, I’ve got good news. One of this year’s biggest fall nail trends takes inspiration from another Mediterranean staple: lush vineyards. Purple and green (especially olive and burgundy shades) are shaping up to be the color combo to request at the nail salon this season.To me, this feels like a clear pushback against the sheer, “clean girl” manicures we’ve seen dominate in recent years. I love olive and plum, but the colors are not exactly a neutral when it comes to nails. If anything, they could be considered sort of gross—a manicure combo that a swamp witch might pick out. The combination certainly gets lots of loving mentions in threads about the best “prugly” polishes on Reddit.“I feel like people love an unexpected color combo that feels fresh to them and this is something we haven’t seen (at least recently),” says Sierra, a nail artist who goes by @thatglosssauce on Instagram. “I love something that makes me do a double take!”The colors might seem unexpected, but they actually were sort of made to go together, says Sigourney Nuñez, a nail artist based in Los Angeles. “Looking at it from a color theory POV, this combination just makes sense,” she explains. “Red and green are complementary colors, so there’s already a natural, built-in contrast between the two.” Mute the green down to an earthy olive and deepen the red to a rich burgundy? “They almost feel like an entire fall color palette in one manicure,” Nuñez says.Once you’ve picked your green and purple polishes of choice, the design options are nearly endless.
