Fake Congress aide dupes woman of Rs 1.5 crore with promise of ticket

A case has been registered in Bengaluru against a man and his two purported associates after he allegedly cheated a woman of Rs 1.5 crore under the false promise of getting her a nomination for the Karnataka Legislative Council.He allegedly pretended to have close connections with the high command of the state's ruling Congress. According to a police complaint, the main accused, identified as Yerriswamy, promised the woman a Member of Legislative Council (MLC) ticket from the party.He introduced himself to the complainant as a media advisor to senior Congress leaders, she has claimed. Yerriswamy allegedly showed photographs of him with influential political leaders to gain her trust.The woman, who is involved in social service through a private trust and has been working on a cancer awareness campaign, was allegedly told that she deserved to become an MLC. Yerriswamy initially demanded Rs 5 crore, but later agreed to Rs 1.25 crore, she has stated in her complaint.The woman has, however, claimed that she paid a total of Rs 1.5 crore to him and his associates, Siddaraju and Basavaraju, over several occasions between August 2024 and January 2025. The money was allegedly exchanged at various locations in Bengaluru.The woman has said in her complaint that the main accused also took her to Delhi while claiming that she had been called by the All India Congress Committee (AICC), the top decision-making body of the Congress party, for an interview.During the stay at a private hotel there, he allegedly knocked on her door and behaved inappropriately when she answered. The woman has said that she resisted the unwelcome advances and locked herself inside the room.When she later demanded the return of her money, Yerriswamy allegedly threatened to kill her.
