The post features a news broadcast, with the reporter saying, “Nag-umpisa na ang House Committee on Justice na dinggin ang dalawang impeachment case na isinampa laban kay Pangulong Bongbong Marcos. (The House Committee on Justice has begun hearing the two impeachment cases filed against President Bongbong Marcos). Text overlaid on the video reads, “Bye Bye PBBM na ba??? Baka mauna ka pa kay VP ma impeach.” (Is this goodbye for [President Bongbong Marcos]? You might actually get impeached before the VP does.) The post implies that Marcos might be removed from office before Vice President Sara Duterte, whose impeachment case is currently being heard in the Senate, due to a new impeachment case filed against him. The facts: No new impeachment complaint has been filed against Marcos in the House of Representatives. There is also no ongoing House justice committee hearing tackling his impeachment case. The news report shown in the misleading video was misrepresented as a recent update. It was originally broadcast on February 2, 2026, as indicated on the lower thirds of the video and on the original post of SMNI Integrated News Facebook page. Impeachment proceedings against Marcos cannot be initiated until January 2027, as he secured one year of immunity after two complaints against him were junked in February 2026 due to lack of substance. “These complaints fail to establish a factual nexus between the President and any impeachable offense. They attempt to reframe mere policy disagreements and routine executive functions as a betrayal of public trust without any showing of bad faith or malice,” the House justice committee report said. Impeachment: The dismissed complaints against Marcos cited his alleged involvement in corruption related to flood-control projects and the budget insertion scandal. It also alleged that he institutionalized systemic corruption that enabled abuse of authority. While the impeachment complaints against Marcos failed to pass the substance test, the House found probable cause to impeach the Vice President in May 2026. The complaints against Duterte include her office’s alleged misuse of confidential funds, unexplained wealth, supposed bribery, and grave threats against Marcos, Romualdez, and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos. The Senate, sitting as an impeachment court, is currently trying the Vice President. Hearings began on July 6 and are ongoing.
