Fact Check: Man being beaten up is NOT a Muslim pretending to be Hindu

A video of two women beating up a man wearing a saffron scarf has gone viral on social media. According to it, this incident happened in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. While the two women, who are sisters, were driving to college on a scooter, the man, Manpreet, snatched a phone from one of them. The two then chased him and eventually caught hold of him. According to an ETV report published on August 9, the accused was from Punjab, and worked as a delivery person in Gwalior. The incident happened in the city’s Padva Police Station area. He was soon arrested.We spoke to Padav Police Station in-charge Shailendra Bhargav. He confirmed to India Today that the accused’s name was Manpreet and that he is not Muslim. Bhargav said that he is Sikh.
