A CO-FOUNDER of social media giant Facebook has been invited to join a consortium with hopes of buying a stake in Liverpool. Reports emerged earlier this week that a group of wealthy individuals were feeling out the purchase of a portion of the iconic North West club. And now, according to reports from Sky Sports, it seems he could be joined in the endeavour by Eduardo Saverin, one of the minds behind Facebook‘s early success. Sign up for the Football newsletter Thank you! The Brazilian-born businessman helped get the site up and running alongside fellow Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg in 2004. He left the company acrimoniously years later, but continued to grow his fortune in other endeavours, such as venture capital firm B Capital. Forbes ranked him as the 68th richest person on the planet earlier this year. Saverin has reportedly been approached by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia, who is spearheading the bid. Bhatia has experience with professional sports business, serving as a co-owner, and at times Chairman, of QPR since 2004. But he resigned earlier this week after 18 seasons with the West London outfit. It is not known how or if Singapore-based investor Saverin has responded to the offer, but he could certainly bring some financial muscle to the table. And he could potentially team up with Bezos to really bolster the backing of the Anfield outfit, who are trying to put together a deal for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola. FSG confirmed the approach in a statement to the Financial times, saying: “An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club.” Amit Bhatia – Unknown (backed by father-in-law Lakshmi Mittal’s £24B fortune) Former investment banker who began his career with Morgan Stanley on Wall Street. Set up his own private investment firm, AyBe Capital Advisors, in London in 2004, and later founded construction giant Hope Construction Materials. Oversaw the company’s operations as it grew into the world’s largest and most profitable platform of its kind. Was listed as the world’s richest person from 2017-2021. Eduardo Saverin – £25 billion Co-founded Facebook alongside Mark Zuckerberg in 2004 after meeting during their studies at Harvard.
