Fabian Holland returns for All Blacks as Dave Rennie rings changes for return Bledisloe Cup test

Lock Fabian Holland is one of two changes to the All Blacks' starting pack for the return Bledisloe Cup test against Australia in Sydney on Saturday.Holland replaces Josh Lord in the second row, with former skipper Scott Barrett retaining his place in the starting line-up despite having to leave last weekend's 50-19 victory at Eden Park for a head injury assessment.Loosehead prop George Bower will move from the reserves bench to the No.1 jersey, replacing Ethan de Groot, with Josh Moorby starting on the left wing following Leroy Carter's ankle injury against the Wallabies. The inclusion of Bower and Holland will help the All Blacks with their mobility, and in Holland's case the lineout against an Australia team likely out to make a point after being humbled in the second half last weekend. Not surprisingly given the All Blacks' determination to back up their victory with another performance at Accor Stadium, there are no unforced changes to the backline, meaning Damian McKenzie retains his place in the No.10 jersey and Beauden Barrett stays at fullback. Both performed well in an attack which caught fire following three successive defeats against South Africa. The other major talking point will be the make-up of the reserves bench, with flanker Du'Plessis Kirifi, called into the squad at the weekend as injury cover, named alongside hooker Samisoni Taukei'aho, prop Xavier Numia, halfback Cortez Ratima and midfielder Timoci Tavatavanawai. Loose forward Anton Segner was ruled out with concussion, as expected.Loose forward Shannon Frizell and outside back Rieko Ioane retain their places on the bench.Damian McKenzie, left, and Beauden Barrett retain their places after standout performances in Bledisloe I.Andrew Cornaga/www.photosport.nz"Last week was a big week, with it being our first game back on New Zealand soil after a long tour away and the Bledisloe Cup on the line. We put in a performance befitting the occasion," All Blacks head coach Dave Rennie said."Now we need to back that performance up." "The Wallabies are a proud side and they'll be hurting after last week. It's a great challenge for us to now face them in front of their home crowd in Sydney."The requirement for consistency will be behind the reluctance to change too much from last weekend. There were suggestions that the uncapped first-five Josh Jacomb could be named in the match-day squad but clearly the selectors want to develop the cohesion the All Blacks struggled for beyond their first test win over the Springboks at Ellis Park in August. The same goes for the determination to keep the outstanding Jordie Barrett and Quinn Tupaea in the midfield. There will be interest, as always, in whether the prolific Will Jordan crosses the tryline on Saturday. The right wing, who has scored 56 test tries, has scored 11 tries in tests this year - the most by any player in international rugby in 2026.All Blacks: 1.
