FA demands ‘full and robust review of Fifa’ in scathing statement after Gianni Infantino’s failed plot to sell World Cup

GIANNI INFANTINO and Fifa have come under fire again after the FA slammed his controversial World Cup plot and demanded a review. The Fifa president announced a u-turn on the plans to transfer control of top tournaments like the World Cup to a new subsidiary, followed by the sale of a substantial portion of the business. The FA spokesperson said: “We fully support UEFA’s position. Sign up for the Football newsletter Thank you! “It is time for a full and robust review of FIFA’s leadership and governance to ensure that the global game is run transparently, for the benefit of all 211 member nations and with the long – term stewardship of football at its heart.” Initially, the world’s governing football body planned to sell minority, non-controlling shares in FFE, with the aims of raising £3.1billion – which the organisation valued at around £15bn. And in a majorly bold mistep, Infantino offered £30million to each of the nations that got on side. UEFA were quick to condemn the plans as they pointed to “governance by intimidation”. Federations everywhere stepped up to call Infantino and Fifa out, with many stating plans to boycott tournaments. Even Infantino’s senior advisor Carlos Codeiro resigned, calling the whole thing a “bad deal for the game”. They have also accused Infantino of not delivering on promises as they quoted a speech he gave when campaigning to become Fifa president in 2016.
