F1 reveal 2027 calendar as Monaco among 10 bold sprint races and return of much-loved Grand Prix

F1 stars will grind out TEN sprint weekends in a hectic 2027 season. The new schedule released on Wednesday revealed that motorsport chiefs have stuck with 24 Grands Prix while ramping up the number of sprint races from the six staged this year. They have replaced the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort and the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, with Spain‘s other race in Madrid being retained. Sign up for the Sport newsletter Thank you! The likes of Max Verstappen have complained about being overworked in the past – even hinting that the gruelling schedule could drive him to an early retirement. Reigning world champion Lando Norris, meanwhile, called it “unhealthy” and “unsustainable”. But F1 bosses will keep their foot on the gas next year. The addition of a sprint increases the workload placed on drivers during a race weekend, and they will be thrust straight into one when Bahrain hosts the curtain-raiser in mid-March. Saudi Arabia comes next before consecutive sprints in Australia and Japan. Brazil and Qatar are the only two venues with sprints in both 2026 and 2027, with Shanghai, Miami, Spa-Francorchamps and Austin returning to a traditional weekend format. Motorsport fanatics will be glad to learn that no F1 races clash with either the Indy 500 or Le Mans next year. And Yas Marina in the UAE will host the season finale for a 14th consecutive season. Norris is still the defending champ but the McLaren ace looks set to be knocked off his perch, with 20-year-old Kimi Antonelli powering towards his first global crown. Comment now
