(PTI photo)BJP national president Nitin Nabin stepped up the party's Dalit outreach in politically crucial western Uttar Pradesh, offering prayers at the Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas Temple in Saharanpur and later sharing a meal at the residence of a member of the Dalit community, with the 2027 Assembly elections in sight.Nabin, who has been camping in the region for the past two days, urged people to internalise Sant Shiromani Ravidas's message of social harmony and equality.Members of the Dalit community presented him with a statue of Sant Ravidas and a book.He later had lunch at the residence of Ajab Singh, president of the Shri Ravidas Temple Committee. Nabin described Singh as a "source of pride" for the Dalit community. The outreach comes as the BJP looks to consolidate Dalit support in western UP, where the community has a sizeable presence and can play a role in determining electoral outcomes.The move also comes as the opposition, particularly the Samajwadi Party, aggressively promotes its PDA plank.
