The trip would mark their first visit to Ukraine as US peace envoys, despite several previous trips to Moscow, where they held talks with President Vladimir Putin. But Daniel Hamilton, president of the Washington-based Transatlantic Leadership Network think tank, told TVP World there was little chance the US envoys would secure a breakthrough, with Putin showing no sign of weakness and instead stepping up pressure on Ukraine. Sabotage operations expanding Hamilton said Russia was expanding sabotage operations across Europe and seeking to undermine public support for Ukraine by sowing doubts about continued assistance to Kyiv. Hamilton also dismissed President Donald Trump’s proposal that European countries reimburse Washington for past US military assistance to Ukraine, saying it is unlikely to be implemented. He argued that Ukraine should continue targeting Russian military, energy and supply infrastructure, saying that bringing the economic and military costs of the war closer home to Russians could increase pressure on the Kremlin.
