The tyrants presided over a brutal crackdown in 2011, when teenagers were detained and tortured for spraying anti-regime graffiti. Crimes against humanity in Daraa led to a huge uprising against Assad, leading to the the civil war and, eventually, the complete collapse of the Butcher’s regime. In 2018, the tyrant launched a terrifying chemical attack in Douma that killed more than 70 people, including children. Assad escaped Syria on a Russian military plane at the eleventh hour in 2024 – as he faced arrest and execution at home. Putin personally approved Assad’s last-minute rescue, which may have used body doubles and decoy helicopters.
