TWO major banks are preparing to close branches this month, with one site closing down as soon as tomorrow. Both Lloyds and Natwest will close branches across the UK in August amid a decline in demand for physical banking sites. Lloyds will close three branches this month. Just a few days later on August 6, its site in Bristol, Fishponds will close and on the 10th its site in Horncastle will shutter for good. The popular bank is preparing to close 233 sites this year, with 142 sites already shut for good. Meanwhile, Natwest is closing its site in Evesham on August 25. Natwest Group will close a total of 39 sites this year but said its Royal Bank of Scotland branches will not close any more sites until 2029. Other account providers have made similar commitments to keeping branches open. Barclays said last May it would not announce any additional branch closures in 2025 or 2026 after it shut 1,236 sites over the past 10 years. Most read in Money Nationwide promised to keep every single one of its 696 branches open until at least 2030.
