A BARGAIN retailer is preparing to close down a popular branch in just a matter of days. It comes after the brand said it was unable to secure ongoing lease for the unit. The store will close on Monday, September 14, giving customers just a few days to say their goodbyes, Sign up for the Money newsletter Thank you! A Poundland spokesperson told the outlet: “I’m afraid the store at Brewery retail park is set to close on 14 September as we’ve been unable to agree an ongoing lease. “The landlord appears from planning applications to have other plans for the unit.” The Sun was told that another store is located just a short walk away so customers don’t have far to travel to get their fix. Nonetheless, the move has left locals upset, with many branding the move a “shame”. “Oh no that’s sad,” another shopper said. A closing down sale has also been launched, some shoppers have said online. Most read in Money It comes amid reports that Poundland’s new owners, Gordon Brothers, could put the chain back on the market just one year after rescuing it from collapse. The Americam firm, which string of discount stores for just £1 last June, are in talks with advisers about launching an auction process for the brand, Sky News said.
