THEY were destined to become a TV powerhouse family spanning numerous reality shows and pop stardom – but those dreams were shattered by a toxic feud. Geordie Shore star Marnie Simpson and her X Factor boyband hubby Casey cut off his brother Chet and Helen Johnson after a family fallout. Now, as the Johnson’s speak up over the seven year fallout, it has been revealed by insiders that Helen’s desire for TV success led to jealousy, family friction and even marriage woes. The turbulent couple were quizzed on what their family think about their brood of four soon-to-be-five kids and they opened up for the first time on being isolated amid the ongoing drama. Podcast host Chloe asked: “What do your families think of this? Like keep having children? Are they bothered?” “No they don’t. I don’t think… well, it’s just me and Chet,” admitted Helen. Chet then told how he only speaks to two members of his family after the explosive feud left his nearest and dearest scrambling to pick a side. His family opted to side with Union J singer Casey and Marnie, leaving him and Helen as outcasts. Chet confessed: “Obviously I’ve got my aunties who I speak to and stuff. They’re my family.” The 36-year-old hinted that the pair have attempted to reconcile with his family as he said: “I don’t really speak to my mum and dad. “I think because we deal with it on our own. My mum lives up north. I live down south.” Chet was quick to say he “doesn’t speak” to his dad but it seems he could be making progress with his mum. Helen told Chloe: “It’s literally just me and Chet and because we rock it so much, no one really cares.” When asked if there was a “family falling out,” Chet replied: “I was hoping you would say that cuz I didn’t want to tell you too much.” Medium Chloe told Chet she could “feel your pain” and knew there was “something missing”. During the podcast, Chet could be seen looking teary-eyed as he recalled their family troubles and his grandad Lenny trying to play “peacemaker.” The couple claimed they’ve since moved on from the feud and are the “happiest they’ve ever been” but they couldn’t help but smile when the medium predicted their families will be the ones to reach out first. Marnie, famed for getting drunk on Geordie Shore for years and stripping off on Celebrity Big Brother, had already made a name for herself by the time she met and fell in love with former X Factor star and Union J singer Casey Johnson on MTV’s big-budget dating show, Single AF in 2017. Helen also built up a reputation as a rowdy party animal, during brief stints on reality TV, even launching a vicious attack on a co-star on a little-watched ITV2 series, Bromans, convinced notoriety was a ticket to more bookings. But, unlike millionaire Marnie, Ex On The Beach’s Helen has been unable to turn her desire for TV stardom into a long-running career. As one insider put it to The Sun: “Helen always thought Marnie would help elevate her TV career. “But when none of the big TV bosses wanted to work with Helen she became increasingly jealous. “Stars of Ex On The Beach were increasingly being looked at as short-term fodder and she hadn’t quite grasped fame like fellow stars Charlotte Dawson, Megan McKenna and Chloe Goodman. “It wound her up even more that Marnie’s reputation as a man-eating party girl had actually worked in her favour when it came to booking TV gigs – yet Helen was hung out to dry after being deemed washed up from a fledgling dating show.” Fans spotted signs of trouble in 2019, shortly after the arrivals of both Chet and Helen’s daughter Ocean and Casey and Marnie’s son Rox, and pointed out that neither couple had publicly congratulated the other. A fan asked under one of Chet’s posts: “Just out of interest have you fell out with Casey and Marnie? Just weird that your brothers and neither of you have congratulated the other! Bizarre.” Chet responded: “Why don’t u mind your own business.” Marnie later tols fans their friendship had crumbled, saying: “We’re just very different people, and have absolutely nothing in common.” In 2023, Chet was present at Marnie and Casey’s lavish wedding at Bassmead Manor Barns, in Cambs, but Helen stayed away, citing childcare issues as the reason for her absence. The sad family fallout isn’t the only struggle Chet and Helen have faced – they called time on their romance back in July 2023 when she publicly accused him of cheating on her multiple times. However, just months later, Helen appeared to backtrack as she had a change of heart and insisted she had got the cheating allegation wrong. But friends have commented that their carefully curated family posts, including the announcement of baby number five in April, seems designed to paper over their marriage troubles and rocky past. “The truth is they’ve got one of the most unpredictable romances in the reality TV space – and everyone knows it,” one pal recently told The Sun. “Their pals are always expecting to hear they’ve split – it’s what came to their heads first when they first heard they would be making a big announcement.”
