And Guendouzi – who previously played for Lyon’s rivals Marseille – revelled in the victory. It was reported he flashed a middle finger at the Lyon fans during the warm-up and was accused of shouting “we’re f***ing you” when his side went 2-0 up. Then video footage from full-time showed him holding his arms out in smug celebration. That prompted an angry reaction from the Lyon players, who shoved the smirking midfielder. And plenty of his Fenerbahce team-mates – including Romelu Lukaku and Ederson – rushed over to protect their man. Then a full-on mass brawl broke out between players and backroom staff in dramatic scenes. But things then got even more violent when Guendouzi headed down the tunnel. Despite his team-mates trying to curb his exuberant celebrations, he continued skipping and waving his arms. Home supporters launched missiles at the big-haired Frenchman – just as they did during the game. He then shouted towards the raging fans in the stand before a man in a white jacket – thought to be a member of Lyon staff in the club tracksuit – approached him and tried to assault him. More video footage from inside the tunnel showed further Lyon staff members needing to be calmed down amid the vitriolic anger. Guendouzi was hailed by various Marseille fans on social media for his antics and wrecking Lyon’s Champions League dreams. Fenerbahce will learn their league phase fate in Thursday’s eagerly-anticipated draw.
