Jay Stewart, 19, Cole Turley, 18 and a 15-year-old were sentenced at Glasgow High Court to a minimum of 16, 16 and 14 years detention respectively. Judge Lord Scott today/yesterday sentenced Turley to 16 years. Stewart was jailed for 16 years which will be initially served in a young offenders insititution. The 15-year-old was given 14 years which will start in secure accommodation until he is 19. The judge told the trio: “Your emphasis being intoxication through drunk or drugs is no excuse whatsoever. “Three young people travelled to Irvine Beach armed with the intent on reprisal for some slight hurt caused to someone associated with your group. Two of you took weapons. “In the case of Cole Turley, a knife was taken which was used to stab and murder. Most read in The Sun “Kayden Moy’s death was pointless and unnecessary. “The victim could have been anyone in the group. Kayden was the one who slipped and fell. “You did not care whether he lived or died and celebrated what you did. “Despite claims of intoxication, you had the presence of mind in the aftermath to conceal your involvement in the appalling crime consistent with this being a planned attack. The sentence for murder is a life sentence.” Cole Turley admitted the killing Credit: Police Scotland A jury found Jay Stewart guilty after a two week trial Credit: Police Scotland After the sentencing was heard, members of family and friends in the public gallery became animated with each other with shouts of “scumbags” heard. A number of police officers in the court had to become involved to separate both sides. Kayden’s heartbroken dad spoke outside court after the sentencing while being supported by friends and relatives. He said: “”Today, the three boys responsible for taking our son Kayden’s life have finally been sentenced. “While today’s outcome brings a measure of justice, it does not bring our son back. “Kayden was more than a name in a courtroom or a headline in the news. He was our son. “He was much loved beyond words and had his whole life ahead of him. “Every birthday, every family gathering and every milestone from now on will be a reminder that he should be here with us. “That is the life sentence which our family has been given. “The choices made that day have had devastated our family forever. “It is a clear message that violence has clear devastating consequences. “One moment of violence has destroyed many lives. “No family should have to endure the pain that we now live with every day. “More importantly, we want people to remember Kayden not for how he died but for how he lived. “He will always be our son, he will always be loved and missed. “His name will never be forgotten and we will continue to speak about him for the rest of our lives.” Shocking CCTV footage showed the trio of thugs fleeing the scene of the killing Credit: Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service They were also seen hugging and celebrating the murder Credit: Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service Sickening CCTV footage showed the teen killers celebrating the murder as they fled the scene. In shameful scenes at the High Court in Glasgow, Stewart smirked at Kayden’s grieving loved ones as he was nailed for murdering the apprentice painter and decorator. And a sick woman taunted the victim’s parents by shouting: “At least my son’s still alive.” Serial blade thug Stewart had also dodged jail for having a machete just four days before the murder. The yob also had a previous conviction for a breach of the peace with a knife. During the trial the jury heard that shortly before the attack Turley, Stewart, and the 15-year-old had been at the top of a sand dune throwing rocks at people on the beach. Kayden’s girlfriend Keryn Knox, who had been with him at the beach, said they had been getting ready to leave at about 6pm when the rocks started to be thrown, and Kayden had gone up to confront the teenagers. Ms Knox told the court: “I went up with him to try and stop him. At that point he had run up the hill and he was just shouting stuff back. “Then Cole ran in from the side and Kayden has seen a blade and when he tried to run he slipped, and when he tried to get back up Cole has stabbed him in his left lower side twice.” Ms Knox told the court: “His body turned completely white and his limbs were blue and people were crowding round him, trying to put his T-shirt over the wound.” Kayden Moy was attacked while confronting the thugs for throwing rocks Credit: Not known, clear with picture desk The trio have been jailed for Kayden’s murder Another witness said he had gone with Kayden to confront the teenagers, and that as they reached the top of the dune, Turley brought out a knife and Stewart an extendable baton. The witness said: “Then out of nowhere Cole (Turley) just started running at us. I ran to the right, so did Kayden, I jumped over a grass ledge, Kayden slipped and Cole leaped over and jumped on him. “He had a knife and it hit. I saw one stab.” The 16-year-old was so badly injured in the attack that he later died. Stewart and the 15-year-old had denied the murder charge and had lodged special defences of incrimination. However this was rejected by the jury, who found both guilty of Kayden’s murder after a trial lasting more than two weeks.
