Every New Feature In The Ocarina Of Time Remake

More importantly, he's still waiting for a new Ape Escape game to release. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake has finally been released, which means it's time to grab your Fairy Bow, sharpen the Master Sword, and get ready to slay all types of monsters in thematic dungeons. While the bulk of this game is largely the same experience as its 1998 counterpart, Nintendo has added multiple new features for people to sink their teeth into. However, some of these are a little easier to miss than others, as they are often hidden and require a bit of work to uncover. If you want to ensure you don't miss anything new, here is a breakdown of all the major new additions in the Ocarina of Time remake and how to access them. Updated Controls Let's get the most obvious and easiest one out of the way first. Players can now freely jump whenever they want and can turn the camera in any direction. These don't sound like massive additions, but given the original game came out in 1998, neither of these features were available for players to use. Being able to jump whenever you want also freed up Nintendo to add a bit more platforming throughout various areas in the world. Don't expect large platforming sections, but there have been some noticeable level changes to take advantage of this mechanic, and it even comes into play for a few fights such as the Morpha boss battle. Link can also sprint now by first performing a roll and then holding down the A button. This will let him run faster than his normal speed, which is most useful as Young Link when you're getting around Hyrule Field. It's a helpful mechanic, but one that won't feel as impactful as jumping or being able to freely move the camera in any direction. Along with being able to look wherever and jump when you want, Ocarina of Time remake has a more streamlined inventory. Players can now hold the Right Bumper to cycle through all their current items. Instead of having three items each tied to an individual button, players will have all of their gear available through a single menu. Additionally, equipment such as the Iron and Hover Boots must first be equipped in the inventory menu screen. Once you have them equipped, just press down on the D-Pad to have Link take them on or off. This is especially useful for the Water and Shadow Temples, which lean heavily on cycling between wearing these items. Business Scrub Seeds The next big addition is Business Scrub Seeds, which are new items you will encounter throughout your playthrough that allow you to summon a vendor wherever you want. They will first be introduced in the second dungeon, Dodongo's Cavern, after your first battle with the Lizolfos. Once you have a Business Scrub Seed, you can use it wherever you want outside of being directly in combat. Each seed can only be used once, and there's a finite number of them in the game. Upon summoning the Business Scrub, talk to him, and you will be given the option to buy items like arrows, bombs, magic jars, or even hearts to refill your lost health. His wares all cost Rupees, so don't bother summoning one if you're broke! After leaving Dodongo's Cavern, you will find Business Scrub Seeds in new hidden areas and chests throughout the game. This can be anything from a hole in Hyrule Field you open up with a bomb to an additional chest that previously wasn't in a dungeon. For returning players, you may not find a ton of use for this. However, these can be quite helpful if you're new to Ocarina of Time and are running low on supplies. Fairy Thoughts Another feature that was certainly added to assist newer players is Fairy Thoughts. Unlike the Gossip Stones, which only tell the time or some bits of lore, Fairy Thoughts are a little more involved. These glowing purple etchings can be found all throughout the game, and interacting with one will give you a small riddle. Most of them can be solved by either playing the correct song next to the etching on your ocarina or using a specific item. Doing so will fully refill your health and magic meter, while others may cause a fairy to spawn that you can capture in a bottle. However, there are a couple tied to collectibles such as a Golden Skulltula or a Piece of Heart. These Fairy Thoughts often act as clues on how to get these items. This isn't common, so mostly expect them to just reward you with a fairy or restore your health. Updated Cutscenes This one isn't really a gameplay feature, but it doesn't warrant at least a mention. The Ocarina of Time remake features numerous fully voiced cutscenes, many of which have been enhanced in the form of better cinematography, editing, and even some dialogue adjustments. There's no archive to rewatch old cutscenes, so make sure you're paying attention whenever they pop up. Alternatively, these can also be skipped if you're on a repeat playthrough or just don't care. Hall Of Fallen Foes Finally, the biggest addition is the Hall of Fallen Foes, which is a massive museum that you can use to view all the 3D models of every enemy you have defeated. Available after completing the Forest Temple and sleeping in Link's bed, the Hall of Fallen Foes allows you to examine every foe you've encountered to see their weaknesses, the most common locations they can be found, and a bit of lore about them. You can also replay all the boss and mini-boss fights from this location. Doing so will limit your health and gear, along with tracking how long it takes you to defeat them. Additionally, there are two boss rushes available where Link can face one boss right after another. This is segmented into a Young and Adult Link section, and there are no additional rewards for completing this. The regular rank-and-file enemies cannot be fought, so don't expect to be picking a battle with a ReDead or Stalfos.
