An FA statement read: “Martin Sherif of Everton FC has been charged with breaching the FA‘s betting rules. Sign up for the Football newsletter Thank you! “It’s alleged that the player breached FA Rule E1.2 in respect of 61 bets placed on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026. “Martin Sherif has until Monday 17 August to provide a response.” All footballers are banned from placing any bets. This applies to all markets, including matches, transfers and team selections. Sherif joined Everton’s youth set up in 2019. The Dutch youth international has been on the Toffees’ first team bench several times but is yet to make a senior appearance for the club. Most read in Sport Sherif spent the first half of last season on loan at Rotherham United in League One, scoring twice in 10 appearances. He went on to join Port Vale in January, netting two goals in 19 outings as they were relegated to League Two. The Liberian-born star is under contract at Everton for another year. At time of writing, David Moyes‘ side are yet to publicly respond to the charges brought against their man.
