Everest faces FSSAI notice over misbranded, substandard hing, non-compliance in three other masalas

The action comes as FSSAI told the Supreme Court that it has proposed a new front-of-pack warning label for packaged foods.The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has temporarily prohibited the sale of Everest Hing after the product was found to be misbranded and substandard. The restriction will remain in place until the company complies with the required food safety standards.Laljee Godhu Hing has also been prohibited from sale for the time being, while warnings have been issued to the company.FSSAI also found non-compliance in Everest’s egg curry masala, chicken masala and garam masala. However, these three products have not been banned.The action comes as FSSAI told the Supreme Court that it has proposed a new front-of-pack warning label for packaged foods. The bright red, hexagonal symbol would identify products containing excessive levels of sugar, salt or saturated fat. The proposal was submitted days after a Supreme Court bench led by Justice JB Pardiwala reprimanded FSSAI and the government over delays in introducing front-of-pack warning labels.The food industry has raised concerns over aspects of the proposed rules, with Coca-Cola and groups representing Nestle and PepsiCo opposing some of the measures.
