Published Oct 16, 2026, 4:30 PM EDT Shaun Corley has been with ScreenRant for over 5 years, and is currently the Coordinator for PR and Outreach for the Comics Team. Event Horizon’s horrific new sequel is coming soon, and with it come some shocking additions to the movie’s lore. Since its release nearly 30 years ago, Event Horizon has become a cult classic, despite the critical beating it took upon release. With Event Horizon’s ascent has come renewed attention on the part of fans, as well as new stories from IDW Publishing. Directed by Paul WS Anderson, Event Horizon mixed the science fiction and horror genres. In the process, Anderson created a unique movie that remains one of the most original genre outings of the 1990s. Starring Sam Neill, Laurence Fishburne, Jason Isaacs and others, Event Horizon followed a rescue team as they boarded the titular spaceship that disappeared years prior while testing an experimental star drive unit. The team learned the horrifying truth: that the ship had gone, essentially, to Hell. Paul WS Anderson's other films include the first Mortal Kombat film, as well as a handful of Resident Evil movies. After the film came and went in theaters, it began to acquire its audience on video and later streaming, but there was no indication of any follow-up on the way. Then, last year, IDW Publishing inked a deal with Paramount Pictures to bring some of the studio’s biggest horror franchises, including Event Horizon, to comics. So far, IDW has released two Event Horizon miniseries: Dark Descent and Inferno. IDW will release the third and final Event Horizon book, titled Pandemonium. IDW Brings Its Event Horizon Trilogy To An End in Pandemonium, On Sale This Winter Pandemonium Expands The Lore Of Event Horizon In New And Unexpected Ways As previously announced here on ScreenRant, IDW is set to take fans on one more trip on the Event Horizon. Pandemonium will be written by Christian Ward, who wrote the previous two Event Horizon comics for IDW, and drawn by rising star Hernan Gonzalez. IDW’s solicitation for Event Horizon: Pandemonium reads as follows: Heaven is real. And it’s worse than Hell. The crew of the starship Event Horizon awaken in a prison they’ve never seen before and don’t remember entering. A prison where the walls whisper and their trauma is given life, power, and... eternity. But why is Heaven horrendous? And if the Event Horizon has long been abandoned... how did they get here? In addition, IDW has shared Ward’s cover for the first issue, and it is provided above. Previously, IDW shared unlettered preview pages from Event Horizon: Pandemonium, and they hinted at a larger world beyond the movie. The previously released preview showed Sir Isaac Newton holding court with Hezarfen Ahmed Celebi. Celebi, like Newton, really existed, and, according to legend, was one of the first human beings to fly, which is acknowledged in Pandemonium #1. The two men have put their heads together, and seemingly invented a proto version of the Gravity Drive from the movie. Both are excited at the prospect of what the Drive could bring, but Newton has doubts. And while Newton and Celebi get the story going, the real protagonist of Pandemonium is Emma Kwon, a physicist who is studying the Event Horizon’s case. Haunted by the death of her twin, Emma’s story finds a parallel in that of Queen Anne of Britain, who seeks to use the Gravity Drive to bring her brother, who died as a child, back to life. Ward and Gonzalez weave the stories of Newton in the past with Kwon in the present, and as the issue unfolds, their destinies become intertwined. Event Horizon: Pandemonium Is A Worthy Sequel Pandemonium Artist Hernan Gonzalez Elevates Ward's Gory and Disturbing Script Event Horizon did not skimp on the horrifying visuals, and IDW’s comics based on the film are doing the same. Artist Hernan Gonzalez, who previously drew an arc of Star Trek: The Last Starship, also published by IDW, here cuts loose. Ward gives Gonzalez plenty of opportunities to craft disturbing scenes guaranteed to get under readers’ skins, and the artist takes him up on the challenge. People meet brutal and graphic ends in Pandemonium, be it from a demon, or an “angel.” Gonzalez’s Last Starship story showed massive promise, and it pays off here. Ward gives Gonzalez plenty of opportunities to craft disturbing scenes guaranteed to get under readers’ skins, and the artist takes him up on the challenge. Meanwhile, Ward is given an opportunity to bring his trilogy of Event Horizon comics to a grand close. IDW’s previous Event Horizon offerings took bold creative swings, moving the action from the 2040s (when the movie was set) to 200 years into the future. Each of these excursions allowed Ward to shape the franchise’s lore, and in Pandemonium, he makes the most of it, drawing on historical figures from hundreds of years before. Pandemonium’s first issue was ambitious, and a harbinger of what is to come with the miniseries. And it is these ambitions that make Event Horizon: Pandemonium a worthy sequel to the original, as well as the perfect way to end the story, for now anyway. The Event Horizon universe is a large one, and it gets even bigger in Pandemonium. Ward and Gonzalez make some amazing contributions to the mythos, and hopefully IDW will allow others to do so once Pandemonium concludes. Ward has shown just how deep Event Horizon runs, making it a great sandbox to play in later. Event Horizon: Pandemonium #1 is on sale December 2 from IDW Publishing! FOC is October 19!
