Even Republicans aren’t happy about Trump’s construction projects, new poll reveals

According to a new CNN poll published Wednesday, a majority of Americans feel dissatisfied or angry about Trump’s construction projects in Washington, D.C., with skepticism extending even to his Republican base.Fifty-eight percent of Americans say they feel dissatisfied or angry about the construction projects Trump has undertaken in the nation’s capital, including efforts to build a new White House ballroom and renovate the Reflecting Pool. Just 17% express positive feelings about the projects, while another 25% say it doesn’t matter to them.The projects failed to gain strong support even among Trump’s base. Only 43% of Republicans say they feel positively about Trump’s construction projects, with 35% saying the projects don’t matter to them.During his second term, Trump has placed a lot of focus on the construction of a new White House State Ballroom and overhauling the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The administration oversaw the unprecedented demolition of the White House East Wing to build a 90,000-square-foot ballroom designed to host nearly 1,000 guests.Costs for this project have ballooned from $400 million to $600 million. The cost is funded in part by corporate donors.Trump also oversaw a project to coat the bottom of the historic 104-year-old Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in “American flag blue” paint. The resurfacing quickly turned into a public relations headache as costs soared from an initial $1.5 million estimate to more than $14 million.The “American flag blue” also resulted algae blooms, turning the pool green.
